|  Item 6-18304LACKAWANNA MUTIPLE-UNIT COMMUTER CARS POWER

        | Produced by Lionel in 1991. These classic units were one of the most popular items we have ever sold, being a beautiful model of Lackawanna Electric Multiple Units put in service in 1929 between Hoboken (across the river from New York City) and the three suburban lines to Dover, Gladstone and Montclair. Running on 3000 volts from overhead wires, they always attained better than 99% on time performance up until retirement in 1986. Everyone loved being on time all the time. The Arrow 3 cars that replaced them (running on 25,000 volts) gave us air conditioning but somewhat poorer on-time performance. This package consists of one powered unit and one dummy unit. Features include dual motors, directional lighting, tire-traction, illuminated interior lighting, detailed pantagraphs, and 3-position E-unit.These electrically powered madison-styled cars predated diesel budd cars and were used in NJ into the late 80's. A matching dummy set was made in 1992. |
