| This catalog prompted howls of protest from collectors, especially coming on the heels of the attractive 1980 catalog. Annual consumer catalog from 1981, 32 paged 5-1/2" * 7" small booklet. Lionel had experimented with this format in 1954 -55, but still produced there regular size catalog. Some early copies were blurred and difficult to read. This catalog was an combination of there newly defined Collector and Traditional series, included the whole line. That being said, 1981 had some really great piece's. Includes; L.A.S.E.R. Train set(Reagan era creeps into Lionelville), The James Gang general set, TPW GP-20 Frt. set, C.P. SD-24 Maple Limited set, Burlington SD-24 Great Lakes limited set, G.N. 4 -8-4 FARR #3 Frt. set, Santa Fe FM, Norfolk & Western J and aluminum passenger cars, PRR green GG-1, Chicago & Alton Hudson and aluminum passenger cars, Burger King GP-20 and Wendy's caboose for the billboard reefer series, Operating Aquarium car, Turn Of the Century weathered reefers, American Flyer S.P. Daylight passenger set, and much more. A forgotten paper rarity thats pretty hard to find now in mint condition. Interesting note, the price went down from $1.00 in 1980 to .75 in 1981. |
