1987 was the first year of LTI and the new ownership under Richard Kughn. Catalog opens with an "Open Letter" from the Chairman, Mr. kughn explaining the new furture of Lionel. This catalog combined the Traditional and Collector series for the first time since 1981. 40 color pages with over 100 color photographs. This catalog shows a large number and variety of new items, including new colors for many older accessories. The Traditional series has been greatly expanded. A new five-digit numbering system has been introduced. New items included; PRR Mint GG-1 and N5C caboose, Rock Island 4-8-4 Northern, Conrail Limited SC-40 set, Milwaukee Road Fallen Flags #2 Frt. set, Santa Fe U36, Operating Handcar, PRR 4-4-2 and O-27 passenger cars, I Love Virginia boxcar and numerous other cars, Automatic Ore loader, Leigh Valley GP-9 Black Diamond Frt. set, NYC Track-Ballast, S.F. Rotary Snow Plow, I.C. F-3 ABA and aluminum cars, and much more. The start of the Kughn era started off with a great bang. He would turn the company around very quickly. |
