2003 LIONEL CLASSIC TRAINS CATALOG VOLUME 1
| The cover for the 2003 Lionel consumer catalog was done by famed artist Steven Gryan. The drawing is of the river tugboat William J. Dickey. This 132 page catalog features some of the following items: a remake of the 1959 Missile Launch Train Set which is a favorite of the space and military collectors. Also featured is the introduction of the Phantom Locomotive and passenger cars. This train was futuristic in its' design. Both pieces are TMCC equipped. Another TMCC set is the Freedom Train inspired by the Post-War economic problems, and signs of a coming cold war with the Soviet Union. This was also the year Lionel introduced the Heisler Geared Steam Locomotives. These engines are unique in their design having their two pistons angled at 45 degrees. Another very fine notible engine Lionel has this year is the Pennsylvania M1A steam locomotive. This was one of the engines featured at the 1939 Worlds Fair. Both the Heisler and M1A |
