        | This was one of their thickest catalogs with 216 pages. Featured on the cover are two electric engines, each with a different color scheme. It is the Milwaukee Road EP-2 "Bipolar" electric engine. This engine came with three pantographs, which is different from the traditional two. Originally built between 1918 and 1919 by General Electric, it had to be built in three sections and reassembled. Two very notable steam engines in this catalog were the C&O F-19 4-6-2 Pacific, and the SP Daylight Special. The C&O was produced two ways: firstly as #490 which only had "Chesapeake & Ohio" on the tender, secondly was #494 which had "The George Washington" on the tender. The tenders had a different design from most. Special note: "The George Washington" was advertised "The Most Wonderful Train in the World". It was the first to offer air conditioning in the passenger cars. The second, "The Southern Pacific" (Daylight) GS-4, was built in 1941 for the SP Daylight route and became one of the most heavily traveled routes in the country. Another beautiful set in this catalog is the Texas Special passenger set. This set came with E7 AA units along with four passenger cars - also available were add-on passenger cars. The set had a very slick red and silver paint scheme. It was called the "Glamour Train of the South West"! This catalog also contains past remade sets of the '50's and '60's (which have also been in other catalogs), but a new remake was set #2551W - the "Great Northern Diesel Freight". This was a freight set that was powered by the EP-7 Rectifier. It came with two remakes of some of the most highly desireable cars from the orginal '60's set - the 6827 "Hanischfeger" power shovel and the 6828 "Harnischfeger" construction crane. This catalog is loaded with steam and diesel engines, passenger cars, and rolling stock. A must have for catalog collectors. |
