1996 LIONEL ILLUSTRATED ARTWORK CONSUMER CATALOG

| Lionel's first edition of the consumer catalog for 1996 that was released at Toy Fair in February 1996. This was the first catalog under the new LLC mangement team(Wellspring and Neil Young). Also Lionel's first illustrated artwork catalog since the mid 60's. The cover was a remake of the 1948 catalog cover. This catalog was a combination of premier collectors and traditional items. The cover featured the brandnew tooled 777 Commodore Vanderbilt Streamlined 4-6-4 Hudson with railsounds. A all- new scale-length 4-car NYC Pullman Heavyweight set was made to match the engine. Other great items included; 2343 Santa Fe 2343 F-3 AB set with matching Super Chief Lionel Lines 4-car aluminum pass. set, N&W J 4-8-4 Weathered Warhorse Frt. set, NYC & SP GP-9's TMCC Frt. sets, a all new Lionel Lines O-27 Frt. set modeled after an early 50's starter scout set, an assortment of new cars(Trout Aquarium car, Warner Bros. cars, new 6464's boxcar, etc.), return of the 164 log loader in plastic, return of the 138 water tower, and lots more. Lionel would issue a seperate catalog for traditional accessories and track. This catalog would even preview the new 773 Hudson and madison cars for future release. Neil Young played a big part in developement of this catalog and the TMCC released items for 1996. Interesting to note this catalog also featured a Kids TMCC Rock Island pass. set that was never made. 24 paged paper pulp catalog with great illustrations. Lionel really split the catalog line up for 1996. This is also one of the harder 90's catalog to find mint. |
