| This was a first for Lionel, with there new Heritage program for preapproved dealers. Lionel's attempt to have there Collector Line not sold at discounted prices by dealers, and keep the market strong. Unfortunately it failed, but 1997 still produced a fantastic Collectors Line of Lionel Trains(all engines had TMCC). Two Lionel first's graced the cover: Scale New York Central J1-E Hudson with a newly designed die-cast Vanderbilt tender(first since the 30's), and 72-foot scale NYC Heavyweight passenger 4-car set in two-tone gray-and-black paint scheme. Other great features included; Northern Pacific F-3 AB diesel set with 4-car NP Aluminum Vista-Dome passenger car set(lionel cataloged the F-3's in NP freight colors, and would catalog the correct NP passenger color F-3 AB diesel's in 1998); Pennsylvannia 238E 4-6-2 Torpedo with all new die-cast tender done with 1930's tooling; Wasbash 4-car Madison passenger set; NYC Dodge Ram Inspection car; 313 Bascule Bridge made just like the 1940's version; Legends of Lionel Madison passenger set; 6464 Series Six; and more. Great artwork paper pulp 12 paged catalog with some of the finest trains Lionel produced in the 90's. Also most of these items were done in very low production levels. |
