This is the end of the road NJ production. After Lionel was acquired by General Mills, the 1st F3's scheduled for production by General Mills (MPC) were the Canadian Pacific AA (Issued with the 1973 Service Station Set only) and the Baltimore and Ohio AA (seperate sale). The new Michigan Factory didn't know how to make them, couldn't make them, and they were sent to the almost abandoned Hillside NJ factory, where old-time workers were recalled to manufacture them. The same thing happened the following year when B units were issued. Here is a test shot of the B&O #8468 B-unit with the rare CP #8469 number and maroon stripe on the other side. This sample and a number of others were made as test samples when production equipment was re-vamped and set up again in Hillside. Obviously they conserved shells by putting 2 names and colors on the same shell. Purchased direct from a Lionel Service Department employee. This and a few other shells were saved from the dumpster upon the closure of the Little Falls, NJ Service Department. A one of a kind piece of Lionel history.
