The 302AC was first introduced in 1948, dropped from the line in 1949, only to reappear in 1950 and remained in the line-up until 1952. During its' tenure the loco appeared in three variations. Type I featured a four piece boiler, Type II a one piece metal boiler, and Type III apppeared with a plastic boiler in 1952. All variations feature a four position reverse unit, smoke, choo-choo and headlight. The tenders were marked "AMERICAN FLYER" on each side of the tender, along with the "READING" herald. Under the cab window on each side was "302AC". All markings were done using white paint.
