        | The 625 Shell tank car first appeared in early 1946. It was manufactured with a plastic base and an orange plastic tank. It is a highly prized piece in the world of collectors. Later, the 625 came with Shell and Gulf markings. There were many variations, mostly related to lettering and the use of plastic verses metal bases. The car was equipped with tinplate trucks and various types of link couplers. The 625 appeared in many of Gilbert's early sets and could be purchased individually, thus making it one of the more prolific of freight cars.       |
