        | Produced from 1946 until 1949 and appearing one more time in 1953, the searchlight car proved to be one of the most popular cars of the Gilbert Post-War link era. There are ten variations of the 634, most of which center around the color of the lamp housing, type of base and height of the handrails. Most common are cars with the yellow lamp housing. Some cars came with grey plastic bases, while in 1947 and 1948 Gilbert produced the car with a grey painted base. The cars were lettered C.&N.W.R.Y. with the number 42597 in black on each side. On the black sheet metal superstructure was printed "AMERICAN FLYER LINES". All cars rode on tinplate trucks and after 1946 had weighted link couplers.       |
