AMERICAN FLYER 654 RED HEAVYWEIGHT PULLMAN

The heavyweight passenger cars were manufactured with link couplers from 1946 through to 1953. There was a 653 combine car, 652 Pullman and a 654 observation. They were available in red or green. Some versions were painted and some were colored plastic. The rarest of the series are the cars equipped with the 2 1/2 inch trucks, which were carry-overs from the Pre-War O gauge passenger cars. In 1947, the cars were all produced with 2 1/8 inch trucks, which remained the standard until the end of 1953. All of the cars featured triple axle tinplate trucks with weighted link couplers, lights and operating doors. Some cars were stamped at each end of the car with the number 654, while others were stamped 654 only in the center of the car under the windows. These were heavily detailed cars with correct placement of air vents above the windows, and featured ice chests and air reservoirs under the car. The only drawback to the authenticity of the car was they were shortened just a bit from what the actual length of the car would be!
