1957 GIRLS PINK STEAM LOCOMOTIVE SET

Lionel introduced this set for the young daughters and sisters of Lionel trainmen. The idea was to get girls interested in the toy train world too. Unfortunately, this didn't work. Girls, boys nor their parents wanted nothing to do with this set. Sales were so disappointing that Lionel offered it again in 1958 to move unsold stock. Even that was unsucessful. This set is no longer the "nightmare" of the 1950's, but now is a highly prized dream for the collector and has a price to match. Set included a #2037-500 PINK loco with headlight, smoke, and Magnetraction, #1130T-500 non-whistle PINK "Lionel Lines" tender, #6462-500 PINK gondola with four white cannisters, #6464-515 YELLOW "Katy" box car, #6436-500 LILAC "Lehigh Valley" quad hopper, #6464-510 BLUE-GREEN "Pacemaker" box car, #6427-500 BLUE PRR porthole caboose, eight curved 0-27 track sections, five straight 0-27 track sections, #6029 uncoupling track section, #1043-500 60 watt white transformer with white cord, instruction booklet, billboard signs, smoke pellets with wood stack cleaner, Lock-on, and wire. The master carton is special for this set and is a two-tier basket weave type on a Pink/Mauve background. The loco came in its own #2037 corrugate carton with tuck-in end closing flaps and the "-500" suffix rubber-stamped on the ends. All other items are packed in Late Classic cartons along with the suffixes on the end flaps. The transformer came in its own special tan corrugate box numbered "1043-500'. Both loco and tender were wrapped in the special Lionel paper prior to placing into their respective cartons at the factory.
