1958 LIONEL CONSUMER CATALOG
| 1958 was difinitely a year of major changes at Lionel, but still a great year with lots of diversity(a great year for sets). One of the last great artwork covers(coldwar surrealistic feel) with 56 action packed pages(the last of the heavy paper pulp pages). This was the first year for the space and military related items. New new engines included 2329 Virginian rectifer; 613 U.P. switcher; 2348 M.ST.L. GP-9; 2352 Penn EP-5; 2242 New Haven F-3 AB; 2383 Santa Fe F-3 AA; 209 N.H. alco's; 212 U.S.M.C. alco A; 216 Burligton alco A.New rolling stock included 6800 series flatcars with military loads; 6572 REA reefer; the scarce 6556 Katy stock car, 6557 smoking caboose; and 6427-50 Virginian N5C caboose. Rare sets included the recataloged Girls set(1587S); 212 USMC military set(2513W); 2329 Virginian rectifer set (2513W), and lots more, too many too list. This is one of those catalogs that for a collector, it hurts to look at, if you know what I mean. |
