1961 would see little change from 1960. 72 paged paper pulp artwork catalog. The first combination catalog, and biggest to date for Lionel at the time. This catalog contained there full line; O and O-27 gauge trains, HO trains, and Lionel-Porter Science labs and kits. Once again space age and military trains dominated the catalog. Still some great new items crepted in, including; 2360 Pennsylvannia GG-1 tuscan solid stripe, 2359 Boston & Maine GP-9; 616 NW-2 S.F. switcher, 229 M.St.L. alco's; 230 C&O alco; 231 Rock Island alco; 3519 Satellite car; 3665 Minuteman missle launcher; 3545 T.V. monitor car; 6416 Boat loader; 6445 Fort Knox mint car; 6058 C&O caboose; 6437 Pennsylvannia N5C caboose; 448 Missile Firing Range set; 462 Derrick Platform; 75 Goose Neck Lamps; 161 Mail Pick-up set; 6448 Exploding boxcar; 1647, 45 olive U.S.M.C. missile Launcher Frt. set; 2528WS, 1872 General set; 2572, 2359 B&M GP-9 Frt. set; 2573, 736 Berkshire Frt. set; 2574, 2383 S.F. F3 AA Frt. set; 2575, 2360 PRR GG-1 Frt. set(rare set); 2576, 2383 F3 AA red stripe passenger set(super rare set), and lots more. 1961 saw more in the changes of existing inventory and boxes. Only passenger cars had metal trucks, introduction of the non-perforated solid orange picture box for rolling stock and passenger cars, and the 2046W tender was "mothballed" after a decade and replaced by the 736W. All in all, still a great catalog for the collectors down the road. But also the beginning of the end in great postwar era catalogs.
