Built in 1947. 6-8-6 black painted diecast body, 6200 decal on boiler front, Lionel Atomic slant mounted motor, three position E-unit, headlight lens, and smoke unit. T671W early coal tender. Lionel precision motor with tubular brush plates, and thick nickel rims on all drivers. With a 671W tender. The Irvington 2625 (1946-1950) was the first car introduced as a deluxe heavyweight passenger car Post-War. Originally made before World War 2 with a six wheel tinplate truck and box couplers, Post-War production contained a new six wheel truck with knuckle couplers. The names Madison and Manhattan, both with the same number, were added in 1947
  • This created three cars with the same number but with three different names
  • In 1948, Madison was assigned the number 2627 and Manhattan was assigned the car number 2628
  • The white heat-stamped markings included the words "Lionel Lines" above the windows. 1947 production is unique because the first "L" of the words "Lionel Lines" is located to the left of the first window in the center window group. The cars were cataloged as three car sets with various locos. Having first shipped sets of cars with the same name during 1946, confusion abounded in 1947, with many sets (if not most) still containing three Irvingtons or two of one name and one of another. Finding a set of three 1947 cars with all names is extremely unusual. The cars were made of smooth bakelite and the paint had difficulty adhering. Most cars will have chips where the black bakelite shows through. Cars with no chips are extremely difficult to find, no matter what year they were made.
