The RDC was produced by Lionel from 1956 until 1958. However, it was the engine in only one set - the 2502W from 1958. In the set, it lead two trailers - a 2550, and a 2559 RDC unit. The prototypes were some of the more popular trains in the 1950's. They were some of the first air-conditioned trains to enter service on major railroads, and were used heavily on the Baltimore and Ohio, as well as the Canadian National. Amtrak also used them once that entity was created by the Federal Government. The beauty of these units is that they can operate seamlessly as a single unit or in a lengthy train. Lionel's version of the model has a silver painted body, blue heat-stamped lettering, two-axle Magnetraction, illuminated interior (with three bulbs), horn (D cell battery required, not included), Pullmor motor, metal trucks, and baseplate. It is extremely tough to find a Post-War Lionel Budd Car with a perfect silver body.
