This set was offered in 1956 only. It was the first set to be headed up by the 2338 Milwaukee Road GP-7. It was also the first set to include the 6430 Cooper-Jarrett flat car with vans, 6464 -425 black New Hacven box car, and the 6346 Alcoa covered hopper. This set also includes a green 6462 gondola and a 6257-50 SP-type caboose, eight curves, three straights, an operating track section, and a 1953 transformer. The original set came in a two-level basket-weave box. The Milwaukee GP-7 came in two variations. The more common version has an all-black cab, which interrupts the orange stripe that runs around the body. The very rare version has an orange strupoe that runs through the bottom half of the cab as well. This engine comes with a Pullmor motor and a battery operated horn. The Alcoa car came in three variations - with blue, black, and red lettering (the red is by far the rarest version). The New Haven box car has variations based on the completeness of the "N" in the NH logo. All of the rolling stock has diecast bar-end trucks and magnetic couplers on both ends. By this tmie, each Lionel set was unique in its consist and was usually pretty colorful! |
