|Probably the toughest 1960's catalog to find. 1968 was not the best of years for Lionel, the postwar era is in it's 23RD hour and the clocks running out. Because of the disruption caused by the move to Hagerstown, Maryland during the previous year as well as generally poor business conditions, Lionel produced only one set in 1968. The #11600, 2029 steam freight set, was touted in the catalog as "the greatest train set of all times". Even though that statement defies belief, the set has become extremely rare(set box and engine alone). Only two engines were cataloged, 736 Bershire and the 2029 Prairie. For the most part Lionel was using excisting inventory, but the 2029 was the exception, being it was the only Lionel item to ever be produced in Japan(stamped "Made In Japan" on the trailing truck). Other items included; 54 Ballast Tamper, 6464-475 B&M boxcar, 6464-725 NH boxcar, 6361 timber flatcar, 3364 operating log car, 6560 crane car, 6437 PRR N5C caboose, 348 maunal culvert unloader, Spear phonographs, Porter Science sets, and lots more in the track and accessory department. An interesting that also produced a new series of box design that have become very collectible. Eight paged fold out design, with full-color coated stock paper.
