SPOKEANE, PORTLAND AND SEATTLE DERRICK CAR

  • Derricks on flat cars were used in construcion projects as well as for clearing minor lightweight wrecks
  • They could lift a boxcar, but generally could not handle a heavy locomotive
  • But this hardowrking little Lionel crane CAN handle a locomotive as well as cars
  • Works great with a regular crane and there's lots of fun involved when both the derrick car and a conventional crane hook onto a locomotive from opposite ends to get it off the ground and onto the tracks - usually one alone can not get the loco alligned without help from the big giant's fingers (THE BIG GIANT IS YOU OR SOME OTHER ADULT). But it can be done with skilled operators handling both the crane and the derrick car
  • Operating couplers and movable boom and operating winch
