IF A CAR UNCOUPLES FROM THE TRAIN WHEN IT SHOULDN'T, HERE'S HOW TO FIX IT. (CLICK HERE)

  • Our first picture shows a car which is upside down. The knuckle of coupler is open; the ajacant car could NOT be pulled with an open knuckle
  • Notice the coupler armature, which has a piece looking like a thumbtack protruding upward in the picture
  • The problem is that the pin at the end of the armature sometimes does not go into the coupler far enough to keep the knuckle closed. Here's how to fix it:
  • A. Take a screwdriver and insert it between the coupler shank and the coupler armature (picture 2) and rotate the screwdriver to raise up the armature as shown. (You'll see the pin normally going into the knuckle)
  • B. Bend the end of the armature (above the pin) downward with your finger so it has a permanent bend in it. (Picture 3).
  • C. Withdraw the screwdriver and align the pin with the hole in the coupler. (Picture 4)
  • D. The coupler should now stay closed. If it doesn't, repeat the procedure, bending the armature a little further.
