PRR S-2 6-8-6 SCALE STEAM TURBINE #6200 (1991)

This was the largest steam engine Lionel ever produced. It is a tribute to the Pennsylvania Railroad's famous S-2 steam turbine made by the Baldwin Locomotive Co. in 1944. But, due to it's excessive consumption of fuel at low speeds, the PRR could not make financial sense to create a fleet of these revolutionary locomotives. Hence, PRR manufactured only one...can you believe it? It was affectionately named the "BIG WHOOSH" owing to its well known sound as it ran down the rails...turbines did NOT make the "chugging" sound of conventional steam locos. This massive loco was later scrapped only a few years before the F- series diesels and Alco's began replacing steam rail power all across the USA. Lionel's version is superb in all respects. It overpowers the Post-War tubines in size and detail. FEATURES: All Metal Construction * All Metal Boiler Detail * Smoke Generation from all 4 Stacks * Full Lens Scale Headlight * Tender Back-up Light * Firebox Glow * PULLMOR Motor * Turbine Railsounds (Bell & Whistle) w/Volume Control * Operates on 0-72 Curves or Greater * Transformer Controlled F/N/R * Authentic Brunswick Green Boiler w/Silver Smokebox Paint Scheme.
