Lionel 6-8030

ILLINOIS CENTRAL GP-9 DIESEL (MPC's FIRST DIESEL)

This was the first diesel loco produced by MPC era Lionel, after General Mills took over in 1970. It was included in the "top of the line" set in 1970, and also available for seperate sale. Neat piece of early LIONEL history! FEATURES: plastic molded postwar style geep body mold, sheet-metal frame, illuminated headlight and number boards, remote reversing unit, powerful Pullmor motor, die-cast metal trucks, measures 14" in length, and authentic IC paint scheme and graphics. Somewhat collectible as the first Lionel loco of the 'Modern Era'. Also difficult to find without faded white paint (usually on the top dynamic brake cover). This has always been a great running engine for the operator.
