Lionel pre-1717
IVES TRANSITION LIONEL 1717 LITHOGRAPHED GONDOLA
Originally marketed as part of the Ives Line beginning in 1933, this car, with its yellow body lithographed to simulate wood slats, was sold as a Lionel product. During the 1933-1934 production, copper journal boxes were used. The 1935-1938 cars had nickel journal boxes, but the yellow body remained the same. Black journal boxes were used on the 1939-1940 production, which was also equipped with box couplers. Some of the lithographed yellow gondolas sold in 1940 were equipped with latch couplers and the boxes for these cars were marked with an "X" suffix. |
