Lionel pre-2623-01 3 car set

Manhattan cars were the cream of the late Pre-War passenger crop, with production extremely limited by the advent of World War Two
  • These scale-detailed Pullmans had a bakelite body painted tuscan
  • Cars were numbered/named either "2623 MANHATTAN 2623" or "2623 IRVINGTON 2623" in white heat-stamped letters
  • They were equipped with the same six wheel tinplate trucka used on the 2226W and 2263W tenders that accompanied the 763 Hudsons and 226 2-6-4 locos. These trucks added to the massive appearance of these cars and they were a sight to behold!
  • The paint flaked off of many of the cars if the bakelite was not thoroughly cleaned - cars with no flaking are difficult to find
  • The heat-stamping did not penetrate the bakelite very deeply, so if the paint is missing so is the evidence of the heat- stamping
