Lionel pre-2955 sunoco
SUNOCO TANK CAR - 1932-1942
One of 4 newly tooled scale cars in 1939 (the others were the scale box car, hopper and cabooose) - these cars were the first to replace tinplate cars with Lionel cars very close to exact scale models of real railroad cars. The tank car had a diecast frame with the number molded in underneath and a sheet metal single dome tank with ladder and railing. Most tanks were painted silver, but a few now very rare tanks were painted grey after Lionel could no longer get silver paint because of the shortages as World War Two approached. |
