226 LOCO PLUS 2623 THREE MANHATTAN PASSENGER CAR SET
Built in 1941The Manhattan cars were the cream of the late Pre-War passenger crop, with production extremely limited by the advent of World War TwoThe scale detailed Pullmans had a bakelite body painted tuscanCars are numbered/named "2623 MANHATTAN 2623" in white heat-stamped lettersThe third car was allegedly numbered "2624" but few (if any) examples existThey were equipped with the same six wheel timplate trucks used on 2226W, and 2263W tenders used with the 763 Hudsons and 226 2-6-4 locos. These trucks added to the massive appearance of these cars and they were a sight to beholdThe paint flaked off many of the cars if the bakelite was not thoroughly cleaned - cars with no flaking are difficult to findThe heat-stamping did not penetrate the baklelite very deeply so if the paint is missing, so is the evidence of the heat-stampingThe loco is the 226 with 2226W tender. |
