226 LOCO PLUS 2623 THREE MANHATTAN PASSENGER CAR SET

  • Built in 1941
  • The Manhattan cars were the cream of the late Pre-War passenger crop, with production extremely limited by the advent of World War Two
  • The scale detailed Pullmans had a bakelite body painted tuscan
  • Cars are numbered/named "2623 MANHATTAN 2623" in white heat-stamped letters
  • The third car was allegedly numbered "2624" but few (if any) examples exist
  • They were equipped with the same six wheel timplate trucks used on 2226W, and 2263W tenders used with the 763 Hudsons and 226 2-6-4 locos. These trucks added to the massive appearance of these cars and they were a sight to behold
  • The paint flaked off many of the cars if the bakelite was not thoroughly cleaned - cars with no flaking are difficult to find
  • The heat-stamping did not penetrate the baklelite very deeply so if the paint is missing, so is the evidence of the heat-stamping
  • The loco is the 226 with 2226W tender.
