1464W 1953 UNION PACIFIC ALCO 0-27 PASSENGER SET

This set represents part three of Union Pacific's Alco trilogy. In 1950, Lionel introduced the infamous "yellow/grey" UP Alco AA set - this is commonly referred to as the "anniversary" set. It came with 0-27 passenger cars in "yellow/grey" (#2482 Westfield Pullman, #2481 Plainfield Pullman and #2483 Livingston Observation cars). In 1951 and 1952, Lionel introduced the "silver" UP Alco AA sets. The 1951 version had the Alcos numbered 2023 in "silver/grey" and had companion passenger cars (#2421 Maplewood Pullman, #2422 Chatham Pullman, and #2423 Hillside Observation). After 1952, Lionel renumbered the Alcos 2033 in "silver" but retained all the passenger car names and numbers as in 1952. NOTE: the latter locos have a dime-size bump on the inside top of the shell between the first and second porthole to eliminate roof warpage. The idea was to add more plastic thickness in the roof. The "yellow" sets usually exhibit more roof warp since they were produced/molded without extra plastic in the roofs. The set box can be the 1952 version with the price "$66.50" printed on the upper left hand corner, or the 1953 with newer 1953 Circled-"L" box style. The 1953 set included: #2033 UP "silver" Alco pairs - one powered with Magnetraction, lights, front operating couplers, and horn, a #2033 non-powered unit with lights and operating front coupler, #2421 Maplewood Pullman, #2422 Chatham Pullman, #2423 Hillside Observation, eight curved 0-27 track sections, five straight 0 -27 track sections, #6019 uncoupling/operating track section, #1033 90 watt transformer, lockon, wire, and paperwork. All items were boxed in Middle Classic cartons and packed into the master carton. The Alco pairs were packed side-to-side in their well-known corrugated master packs with inserts for extra protection.
