726 BERSHIRE FREIGHT SET (1952)

 

Produced by Lionel in 1952. The non-Magnetraction 2-8-4 726 Berkshire steam locomotive was a reissued number (last used in 1949) - necessitated by the Korean War shortage of Alnico magnetic material. The rubber-stamped 726 usually had a "RR" below the number on the cab. A rarer version came without the "RR". The outfit rolling stock is standard issue for 1951-1952. The 726 engine box was corrugated with the 1952 date below "St. Joe Paper Co." manufacturer's seal (726-86). The rolling stock came in OPS Middle Classic boxes, it must have the "AMERICAN TOYS" seal.
