681 STEAM TURBINE FREIGHT SET (1953)

Built in 1953. This 681 set was made just after the Korean War. The 681 turbine is one of the classic Lionel steamers with Magnetraction. The numbering on the engine is heat-stamped which is unique to that years model. INCLUDES: 681 steam turbine loco with headlight, smoke, Magnetraction, 2046W PRR whistle tender, 3520 searchlight car, 6464-25 box car "Great Northern", 6415 Sunoco three dome tank car, 6417 PRR porthole caboose, eight curved and five straight track, and one USC uncoupling/operating track. This is one of only two sets to contain the 6464-25 Great Northern box car. Set also came with lockon, wire, smoke pellets, billboard set, instruction manuals for loco, search car, UCS uncoupling/operating track section, and service station booklet. The set carton for 1953 is the new circle "L" type, and the words "MAGNE-TRACTION" are clearly visible on the set box signifying the return of Magnetraction following the Korean War. All components were individually cartoned in the Middle Classic box style. Both engine and tender were protected by heavy corrugate liners.
