LIONEL 6812 TRACK MAINTENANCE CAR

 

Built from 1959 to 1961. Crank allows the raising and lowering of the platform so crews can inspect and maintain cantinary wires, overhead signals, tunnels etc.. These cars had a two man crew - one at the controls, the other at the far end of the platform. Has AAR trucks and operating couplers. Usually black superstructure base with gray platform or vice versa - cars were also made with either bright lemon yellow or dark yellow platforms and superstructure. Car bases are always red. A few were made with a cream colored superstructure. Some black platforms and superstructures were assembled outside the factory.
