Southern Pacific Golden State LEGACY AC-9 #3810
| Current Price is $2069.95 |
The AC-9 represented a reversal of sorts for the Southern Pacific being both coal fired and with the cab situated in the normal location. Initially assigned between El Paso and Tucumcari, tunnel smoke was not a concern. Designed for freight service, the locomotives nevertheless received the SPs skyline casing treatment which helped with smoke abatement, giving them a look that was both fierce and stylish. And with a top speed of 75 mph, they were capable of assisting on passenger runs if called. In 1950, SP rebuilt the AC-9s as oil burners. Many picked up new tenders at the time, often from already retired locomotives of other classes. They remained in service until 1956, ending their days hauling freight on the Modoc line in eastern California. Back in the Lionel showroom for the first time since 2017, weve made several upgrades to the AC-9 for this round. Inside youll find the latest in LEGACY and Bluetooth control of course, upgraded with a three-speaker sound system, kinematic drawbar and force coupler. Like the prototype, the models are equipped with both an air horn and steam whistle. Also available for the first time will be modernized oil burning versions with oil tenders and ash pan details removed. (Note that oil fired AC-9s will also not have ash pan glow lighting effects.) In addition to three prototypical versions capturing both the early and later appearances of the class, the unique look and service of the AC-9 lends itself to several what if paint schemes as well. Weve crafted three for some of the Espees most famous trains. Dont miss this opportunity to add some modern Lima Superpower to your roster!
