6424 NEW YORK CENTRAL FLAT W/ERTL SCRAPER (1996)
| Produced by Lionel in 1996. This was part of the first series of flatcars with Ertl die-cast Caterpillar road epuipment piece's. Plastic molded NYC flatcar with die-cast metal sprung trucks, and Caterpillar earth scraper. Note: A non-reactive material must be inserted between the scraper and flatcar to prevent a chemical reaction that "melts" the treads into the flatcar. Lionel supplied a plastic sheet to dealers a few weeks after this car hit the market. Most cars don't have the sheet, making this car very difficult to find without melt marks. |
