Great book covering Electro-Motive Corporation's developement of diesel power E units for the new wave of streamlined trains in the 1930's, right through the 50's(there golden years). In 1937 Electro-Motive- a subsidiary of General Motors- began making locomotive carbodies at its La Grange, Ill.,plant. EMC engineers redsigned the bodies of the diesel engine with smooth-riding six-wheel trucks. These changes formed the essence of motive power for years to come. In the years immediately before the U.S. entered WW2 Electro-Motive's E units helped usher in a sense of color and style, not to mention performance expectation, that had never before been seen on railroads. EM's E units quickly gained a reputation for reliability, smooth riding, and efficient operation. By the early 50's E units were found on most major RR's. This book covers EA, E1, E2, E3, E4, E5, E6, E7, E8, and E9 editions by EM. Softbound 128 paged book. |
