| Produced from 1946 until 1953, the 651 baggage car was the companion to the 650 coach as well as the 652, 653 and 654 heavyweight cars. The car experienced a long run encompassing at least twelve variations. Some of the major variations were red bodies verses green bodies, plastic, diecast or sheet metal bases, and painted or non-painted bodies. This car never came lighted and featured tinplate trucks with either weighted or non-weighted link couplers. Marked on each side in white lettering was "NEW HAVEN" and "RAILWAY EXPRESS AGENCY" along with the number 651 - all positioned between the two doors. This example is in Excellent (C7) condition as shown, and is the early plastic-based version from 1946 only. |
