Lionel produced EP-5 Electric locos from 1956 thru 1960. Built by General Electiric, they were dubbed 'rectifier' because the actual locomotive had DC motors that were fed current from AC overhead wires. Current was converted to DC by hugh rectifiers inside the loco.
