This vastly improved crossing gate replaced the Pre-War 77N in 1940. Produced by Lionel from 1940 to 1942, and again from 1945 to 1949. This pedestrian crossing gate was first produced to serve both standard and O gauge trains - hence the larger size gate of 10 and a half inches in length. The Pre-War versions of this colorful accessory are known to exist with gates painted aluminum, gray (1941 to 1942 only), and a very rare white. The Post-War production has aluminum painted gates. Hash marks are on each side of the black colored paper strips inside. This all metal gate includes a diecast metal base painted red, and the gate includes a pedestrian gate - a small arm meant to block passage from the sidewalk on the back end (sometimes removed for better operation). Came with a clear 153C bulb or a red L431 bayonet bulb. |
