1953 was a very good year at Lionel. MagneTraction was reintroduced as the Korean conflict bagan to subside, and magnetic metal became widely available again. Returning to the engine line-up were the 2046, 736, and 681. New steam engines included the 2037, 2055, and 685. Third generation F3's were introduced as well with the production of the 2353 Santa Fe, 2354 NYCS, and 2355 Western Pacific. However, these engines did feature less detailing. New rolling stock for 1953 included the 6417 N5C "porthole" caboose, 6415 Sunoco three dome tank car, 3484 PRR operating box car, and the first four 6464 series box cars: -1 Western Pacific, -25 Great Northern, -50 Minneapolis and St. Louis, and -75 Rock Island.
