| 1954 may be the best year for postwar Lionel. The year brought a greater variety of motive power and rolling stock in 43 artwork pages. Also a classic year for boxed sets. New colorations by Lionel made outfits visually more appealing, therefore more saleable. New items included the 2321 Lackwanna FM, 2245 Texas Special F-3, 2356 Southen F-3, 6250 Seaboard NW-2, and steamer's (646, 665, 682, 2065). Seven new 6464 series boxcars were made in 54;-100 WP(blue feather), - 100 WP(yellow feather), -125 Pacemaker,-150 MP, -175 RI, -200 PRR, and -225 SP. New rolling stock included 6446 cement car, 6356 stockcar, 6672 reefer, and the 3562 operating barrel car in black and gray. The O gauge 2530 aluminum baggage car was another innovation(of which a rare large door version came in the 646 Hudson outfit #2222WS). Rare sets included; 2223W with Lackawanna 2321 with the rare 6464-100 blue feather boxcar, 2231W Southern ABA F-3 set, 2234W S.F. F-3 set with the rare reversed color set box, 1517W Texas Special F-3 O-27 pass set(a first), and much more. 1954 was truly one of Lionel's best years ever(and sales reflected this too).
