Built between 1946 and 1950. These cars were Lionel's first deluxe heavyweight passenger car. Being high-end cars, they were always headed in sets by engines like the 2332 GG-1, 671 turbine, 726 Berkshire, and 773 scale Hudson. They were also available for seperate sale in each of the years they were made. In 1946, the only car available was the 2625 "Irvington". Later, "Madison" and "Manhattan" were added to the fleet but kept the same number - 2625. In 1947 "Madison" was given the number 2627 and in 1948 "Manhattan" was given the number 2628. This continued until Lionel stopped making these cars after 1950. The cars are made of heavy black Bakelite and were painted brown. The Bakelite proved with age not to hold the paint well. Flaking is common, and finding a set of cars with perfectly unblemished paint is extremely difficult - indeed, by the 21st century, getting to be nearly impossible. These cars featured two-bulb interior illumination, six wheel trucks, diecast coil couplers on both ends and window silhouettes. From 1946 to 1949 they came with clear window silhouettes, while in 1950 they had graphics of passengers printed on them.
